Solution

RATP Dev London covers London United Busways, London Sovereign and Quality Line. These three companies operate 12% of the London bus market, and transport 271 million passengers every year.

More than 3,300 employees work with RATP Dev London, delivering the highest possible quality service to the passengers of its 70 routes, which exemplify the values of reliability, safety and regularity.

Video telemetry for passenger safety

RATP Dev London introduced a new telematics system in 2016 to enhance the safety and integrity of passengers. This telemetry data allows the garages to review causes of braking and acceleration events, as well as collision information, to help understand how incidents take place and educate drivers to avoid them. The original trial data indicated that such events reduced by 43% in just three months. The equipment has been successfully working at Quality Line in Epsom and is about to be re-launched in London Sovereign.

London’s red buses turn green

RATP Dev London already operates 246 hybrid buses in London, but wants to extend this by proposing to TfL that the routes C1 and 70 routes switch to all-electric in 2018. TfL welcomed this voluntary initiative from an operator with the requisite technical and commercial credentials to implement this change successfully.

In all, 36 zero-emissions electric buses will service the two routes, C1 and 70. RATP Dev is carrying out the relevant adaptations to the infrastructure at its Shepherd’s Bush depot, including installing recharging systems, in order to deliver this future service. RATP Dev aims to gradually turn Shepherd’s Bush into a depot with an all-electric fleet, which would make it the first zero-emissions bus garage in London.
